Below is a list of some of the most recent news stories from WKU's news blog: Exhibits at the musuem International year of Bosnia and Herzegovina Arts at WKU Innovative students President Caboni Creative Writing The alumni association WKU student research in Vietnam Though these stories are important to us, students and faculty, from Western this is still considered soft news. This is because it doesn't pertain to people around the country or even everyone in the state. With a bigger staff like they have they are able to write about more because more people can take stories. By doing this the community is opened to more than normally would be. WKU makes a difference in the news here in Bowling Green because it is considered a college town. This means that there really isn't much to do, but the campus is the heart of the town. They report on what everyone can relate to because there motive is not to hit on hard hitting news but, more local news for the everyday communi...

entertainment

I have never paid much attention to record labels or who an artiest is signed with. One of the biggest country record labels in the country Big Machine records. Taylor Swift, Thomas Rhett, Tim McGraw and many more are signed with them. All three of these artists have made country history throughout the years. Through the years Big Machine Records has come out with country artists that have made history making their record even more known. Most of their sales are from CD's from the past years but, as time changes so does their sales. Most are done on itunes or online. Now-a-days all we hear about is record sales and being number one on itunes or number one on the charts. We now based earnings on how many countries a certain artist is number one in.  Country music as time has gone on has taken a turn and has become more modern. Though their still our old school country stars most have evolved with the time period, as have the fans. To me their target audience is more focused ...

Visual Culture

I don't really find myself reading a magazine. I have never been someone to get my favorite snack, a magazine, sit and relax. Though I decided for this assignment to check out what the deal is with them, so I decided to look at People. I remember when I was younger my mom flipping through it as we waited in line at the store. I know that People magazine is not the most stimulating magazine but, I did find it be interesting. At first glance the cover is completely filled with pictures of celebrities. Through out the magazine the pictures continue while the print seems to be less important and smaller. Most of the images are of celebrities. Even some AD's are of celebrities. Most of the pictures of white celebrities and the stories tend to be on more important than stories of people of color. After filliping through the magazine I finally found a few celebrities of color and those stories were more about "Who wore it better". A lot of the photos of diversity was also ...

Social Media

In today's culture social media  is everything to us. Our lives our based on how many likes or favorites we have and the reassurance of comments from the people in or lives. We live on our screens. Most don't know the behind the scenes of social media and what goes into them like, synergies. One of the most famous companies in the world is Disney. When most think of Disney they think of the obvious, Walt Disney, Pixar, etc. One that most don't know know about is ESPN because there content is completely opposite. Though most have no idea of the correlation of the two, neither are affected by that. The growth of the business are still booming and part of the biggest social medias. ESPN bring in 115 million viewers a month, making it one of the biggest sports stations in the world. It is known that when the commercials come on that is when people will do to the bathroom, get food, or switch to a new show. If you do watch the commercials you can see that a majority of them ar...

Movies

I am someone who can sit down and watch a serious of movies in a day and never be bored. Going to the movies in the last years has become an experience. It no longer is a a ticket for $5 and a drink, no. Now seats recline for comfort, people can order meals in theater, and the movies themselves have become a trend. Directors and PR teams have taken movies and turned them into a fan club, by creating serious so not only do the fans return but their money does as well. http://www.imdb.com/list/ls066822531/ Above is a link to IMDb's list of the top 20 movies of 2017 so far. It was no shock to me that Beauty and the Beast.   With it's love and reminding people of their childhood, it was predicted to be a sell out. One movie on the list that stood out to me was the Fast and Furious movie. Everyone has at one time complained about the serious but has watched them at some point. This past movie, the 7th one, came out and broke records for tickets sold. People not only came to the...

The magazine industry

I have never really been into magazines or gone out of my way to go buy one. Though I am aware from my times of picking one up in line o check out, the first thing you see is Ad's. Magazines to me seem to be filled with ad's and very little content. Though I understand that they need those ad's in order to stay afloat. That is how they bring in the most revenue. From an editorial stand point you want to produce a magazine that is appealing to look and enjoyable. Neither of which includes ad's.  I could't find a magazine on campus and when I went online to find one you had to pay for them all and did't have the money to do so. Instead I can talk about magazines i have read and seen in the past. I would usually read photography and gossip magazines. Both would normally have tips and ideas about a general topic for each issue. the ad's would usually consist of lens, bonus equipment, makeup, or even to purchase for issues. To sum it all up I believe the ads f...

Since I was twelve I have made mix CD'S for everyone I knew. When I turned 16 and was able to drive I never turned on the radio, unless my dad was in the car. To me radio has lost it's purpose in the last ten years. As younger generations begin to drive they are more inclined to use an aux cord than to listen to the radio. Some of the local stations in my home own are B-105, WEBN, and 96 ROCK. On thing all of these stations have in common is, almost all of their listeners are older generations. Almost all of the radio stations in the area are owned by big firms like iHeartMedia, and Cumulus Media. All of their formats are different though, some are rock, some are new music, and others are oldies. Below is a chart of some of the local channels in Cincinnati and what type of stations they are. Most of the stations are either rock or sports in the area. Their is very little stations that are local who play new music. This is because most people listening to radi...
