I am someone who can sit down and watch a serious of movies in a day and never be bored. Going to the movies in the last years has become an experience. It no longer is a a ticket for $5 and a drink, no. Now seats recline for comfort, people can order meals in theater, and the movies themselves have become a trend. Directors and PR teams have taken movies and turned them into a fan club, by creating serious so not only do the fans return but their money does as well.

Above is a link to IMDb's list of the top 20 movies of 2017 so far. It was no shock to me that Beauty and the Beast. With it's love and reminding people of their childhood, it was predicted to be a sell out. One movie on the list that stood out to me was the Fast and Furious movie. Everyone has at one time complained about the serious but has watched them at some point. This past movie, the 7th one, came out and broke records for tickets sold. People not only came to theaters to watch because of the franchise but also, the late death of Paul walker. Movies and serious often become more popular after a famous death or because of just how long the movie has been around.
Another reason certain movies are more popular than others is because of books. Often popular movies are turned into movies later, based on the fan support. When those movies are turned into books the sales increase. Often movies bring attention to books because as sad as it is more people want to watch a movie than read. It is known to most that the movie is never as good as the book. Some may say this but in my opinion there are some movies just as good as the book. A good director will know what to cut and what needs to stay, maybe not because it is significant to the plot, but to the fans.
